Accountants for TikTok Shop sellers

TikTok Shop Accountants for UK Sellers

TikTok Shop can take a product from nothing to thousands of orders in a week. The settlements behind it bundle commission, creator affiliate fees, shipping, promotions and refunds into one payout. We split every settlement into its parts, so you know what each viral sale actually made.

In short

eCounts is an accountant for UK TikTok Shop sellers. We reconcile every TikTok Shop settlement into Xero or QuickBooks, separate the platform commission, creator affiliate fees, shipping and promotions, handle VAT correctly, and show your margin by product and alongside your other channels. We work with brands selling through creators as well as sellers running their own LIVEs and videos.

Why the numbers look wrong

Why your TikTok Shop payout never matches your sales

TikTok Shop does not pay you the value of your orders. It pays a settlement: your sales, less the platform commission, less creator affiliate commission, less shipping labels and promotions you funded, less refunds and returns. Orders are typically settled once they are delivered, so one payout can include orders from several different weeks.

If that payout is posted as a single sales figure, revenue is understated, commission and affiliate costs disappear, and VAT is worked out on the wrong number. It is the same problem we fix for Amazon sellers, with one extra layer: affiliate commission paid to creators, which behaves more like a marketing cost than a platform fee.

The fix is to break each settlement into its parts and match it to the bank. Our multi-platform reconciliation service does that for TikTok Shop alongside every other channel you sell on.

Creators and VAT

Creator affiliate commission and VAT

Affiliate commission is what you pay creators who sell your products in their videos and LIVEs. TikTok Shop deducts it from your settlement and pays the creator, but it does not issue you a VAT invoice for it.

Whether there is VAT to reclaim depends on the creator. If a creator is VAT-registered and charges VAT on their promotional services, they should invoice you and that VAT can normally be reclaimed. If they are not VAT-registered, there is no VAT to recover. Creators based outside the UK need separate consideration.

In practice, most sellers either over-claim VAT on affiliate commission or never claim it at all. We keep affiliate costs by creator, ask for invoices from VAT-registered creators, and only reclaim VAT that is properly supported. Our VAT returns service covers the wider rules.

How it works

TikTok Shop accounting: how we bring it into your books

  1. 01

    Connect TikTok Shop

We link your Seller Center to Xero or QuickBooks through a dedicated integration, so settlements arrive automatically. A2X is not our route for TikTok Shop.

  2. 02

    Split every settlement

Each settlement is broken into sales, shipping income, commission, affiliate fees, shipping costs, promotions and refunds, each posted to its own account.

  3. 03

    Reconcile to the bank

Settlements go through a TikTok Shop clearing account and are matched to the money that reaches your bank, so nothing is missed or double counted.

  4. 04

    Margin by product

Sales and fees are combined with your landed costs to show profit per product, next to Amazon, Shopify and your other channels.

Income tax

Do I have to pay tax on TikTok Shop income?

Yes, once you are trading. TikTok sellers who are self-employed report their profit on a Self Assessment tax return once trading income goes over the £1,000 trading allowance, paying Income Tax and Class 4 National Insurance at 6% on profits between £12,570 and £50,270 in 2026/27. A limited company pays Corporation Tax instead, and its directors are taxed on the salary and dividends they take, which can be more tax-efficient as profits grow.

Tax is paid on profit, so every allowable expense matters: cost of goods, TikTok Shop fees, shipping, advertising, samples sent to creators, packaging and accounting software. These tax deductions are why a small business needs records that split every settlement properly.

TikTok creators earning affiliate commission are in business too. Commission from promoting other sellers' products is taxable income, reported through Self Assessment like any other self-employed earnings. An ecommerce accountant can handle both sides if you sell your own products and earn commission as a content creator.

Tax

TikTok Shop, VAT and HMRC reporting

VAT. If you are a UK-established seller, you account for VAT on your own TikTok Shop sales, just as on any other channel. TikTok Shop only accounts for the VAT itself in specific cases, such as sales by overseas sellers of goods held in the UK. Your TikTok Shop sales count towards the £90,000 VAT registration threshold, measured on gross sales, not payouts.

HMRC reporting. Online platforms, TikTok Shop included, share sellers' details and sales with HMRC under the digital platform reporting rules. A seller is not reported if they made fewer than 30 sales and received less than about £1,700 in the calendar year. Being reported does not mean you owe tax, but HMRC will expect your tax return to reflect what was reported.

Income Tax. Sole traders whose turnover passes the thresholds need to follow Making Tax Digital for Income Tax, which brings quarterly updates. TikTok Shop's fast growth can bring you into it sooner than expected.

Coming up

Changes coming for TikTok Shop sellers

Fast-growing sellers reach new thresholds quickly. These are the dates to plan for.

  1. MTD for Income Tax threshold falls to £30,000

Sole traders and landlords with qualifying income over £30,000 in 2025/26 must keep digital records and send quarterly updates. Online sellers should check their gross sales, not profit, against the threshold.

Source: GOV.UK, Find out if and when you need to use MTD for Income Tax

  2. Penalty points for late MTD quarterly updates begin

From the 2027/28 tax year, each late quarterly update earns a penalty point, and four points means a £200 penalty. 2026/27 is the year to get the routine right.

Source: GOV.UK, Penalties for MTD for Income Tax

  3. EU ends its temporary €3 duty on low-value parcels

Since 1 July 2026 the EU has charged a flat €3 customs duty per item on parcels worth up to €150. From July 2028 normal duty rates apply, so UK sellers shipping to EU consumers should expect landed costs to change again.

Source: European Commission, Temporary flat fee on low-value imports

  4. Mandatory e-invoicing for all VAT invoices

The government will require all VAT invoices to be issued and received electronically from 2029, with a roadmap due at Budget 2026. Accounting software choices made now should support it.

Top tips

Five tips for TikTok Shop sellers

  1. 01

Work from settlement reports, not payouts

Download your settlement and order reports from Seller Center. They show the commission, affiliate fees and adjustments behind every payout, and they are the source for accurate accounts.

  2. 02

Know your margin before you set an affiliate rate

Commission plus affiliate commission can take a large share of a low-priced product. Run the product through the calculator above before offering creators a high rate.

  3. 03

    Get invoices from VAT-registered creators

TikTok Shop does not give you a VAT invoice for affiliate commission. If a creator is VAT-registered, ask them for one, or you cannot reclaim the VAT.

  4. 04

Plan stock and cash for a viral spike

A video that takes off can sell weeks of stock in days, while settlements arrive after delivery. A cash forecast shows whether you can reorder in time.

  5. 05

Watch the VAT threshold on a rolling basis

Fast growth on TikTok Shop can push you past £90,000 of taxable turnover in a rolling 12 months mid-year. Check it every month once sales are climbing.

From the accountant

“TikTok Shop sellers often see huge sales and a much smaller payout, and can't say where the difference went. Once commission, creator fees and shipping are split out by product, it is usually clear which products are worth pushing and which only look good on the sales screen.”

Contact us
What does a TikTok Shop accountant do?
A TikTok Shop accountant reconciles each settlement into sales, commission, affiliate fees, shipping and refunds, then handles your VAT and your Self Assessment or Corporation Tax, so your accounts show what each product really earns.
Do I have to pay taxes on money made from TikTok?
Yes, if you are trading or earning regularly. Profit from TikTok Shop sales and affiliate commission is taxable once trading income goes over the £1,000 trading allowance.
Do I need an accountant for TikTok Shop?
Not always, but most growing sellers benefit from one. TikTok Shop settlements combine commission, affiliate fees, shipping and refunds, and posting them correctly is what makes your profit and VAT figures right.
How much does TikTok Shop charge UK sellers?
Most categories pay 9% commission, raised from 6% in January 2026, with a reduced 5% for some eligible electronics and beauty products. Creator affiliate commission, shipping and promotions come on top, and there is no separate payment processing fee.
Can I reclaim VAT on TikTok Shop affiliate commission?
Only if the creator is VAT-registered and gives you a valid VAT invoice. TikTok Shop does not issue VAT invoices for affiliate commission, so without one from the creator there is no VAT to reclaim.
Does TikTok Shop report my sales to HMRC?
Yes, if you pass the reporting threshold. Under the digital platform reporting rules, platforms share details of sellers who make 30 or more sales or receive about £1,700 or more in a calendar year.
Do you use A2X for TikTok Shop?
No. We use A2X for Amazon, Shopify, eBay and Etsy, and connect TikTok Shop through a dedicated integration into Xero or QuickBooks, with the same settlement-level approach.
Can you handle TikTok Shop alongside my other channels?
Yes. Many TikTok Shop sellers also sell on Shopify, Amazon or eBay. Every channel comes into one set of books, so you can compare margin by channel and by product.
